Gresham - Declaring that partnership works, the chair of the Portland area Workforce Investment Board officially re-opened WorkSource Portland East.
James Paulson, chair of the Region 2 Workforce Investment Board led a group of dignitaries in re-opening the Center, located at 194th and Stark in Gresham. Formerly home to the Oregon Employment Department, the new Center also houses partners from Mt Hood Community College Oregon Human Development Corporation, and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
The center provides access for job seekers and employers for: industry-specific account representatives for employer services, targeted recruitments, Career Center computers with access to job search tools including iMatchSkills(r), job postings, career advancement assistance, as well as training and certificate classes.
Joining James were Bill Fink, Deputy Director for the WorkSource Oregon Employment Department, Dr. Robert Silverman, President of Mt. Hood Community College, and Lonnie Roberts, Multnomah County Commissioner.
Paulson says the effort to integrate partners into one site was in response to Governor Ted Kulongoski's goals for the workforce system. "We are working to integrate partners in WorkSource Centers, and to seize every opportunity to leverage public and private resources and talents."
"WorkSource East has quickly become a model within our region for addressing significant economic challenges, and for maximizing and aligning public resources to deliver the best possible employment and training services to job seekers, workers, and businesses in our region."
