CandyPubTextTom Butler had a dream - renovate the old Odd Fellows Hall on North Grant in Canby into a pub and restaurant. Tom gathered the materials, hired contractors, drew up plans - and began making his dream a reality.

"To me it was a no-brainer, this 100 year old building was just a perfect match for a pub and grill in Canby."

Tom was missing only one thing - staff to run the Canby Pub & Grill. Tom knew how to run a restaurant, but he needed an expert to help him find qualified candidates to interview. So Tom turned to a new friend - WorkSource Oregon and its partner, the Oregon Employment Department.

candypubstephanies Tom worked with Stephanie Hudson, a Business Representative from the Oregon City WorkSource Oregon Center. Since Tom's restaurant wasn't even open yet, he didn't have any place to hold interviews, so Stephanie found places in Woodburn, Canby, and Oregon City. She made applications available and posted Tom's open jobs on the Internet.
"Stephanie was the first person I came in contact with at WorkSource Oregon. And if they are all as good as she is, then this has got to be a winner."

Stephanie's service didn't stop there, though. As applications poured in, Stephanie and others at WorkSource Oregon pre-screened candidates so that Tom saw only the most qualified. Using the new iMatchSkills application, Tom was able to pick candidates based on their skills, not just the titles of the jobs they'd had.

"It was just phenomenal that we got those good applicants."

Tom needed cooks, wait staff, bartenders, dish washers, and bus staff. In the end he hired close to 50 - nearly all from WorkSource Oregon. Perhaps the best thing of all - Tom didn't pay for this service - its pre-paid through employer payroll taxes.

Today the historic 1912 building is once again alive and filled with people. Business is booming. How does Tom feel now that he's used the services of WorkSource Oregon?

"It's a service that is really really well done and much appreciated and everybody should take advantage of it."
