WorkSource Oregon customer service helps a Gresham residential care facility find the right workers
nemo_vaughan_191.jpgTwo years ago, Nehemiah Vaughan (Nemo) was working at a 350,000 square foot, corporate-owned nursing facility, until restructuring and downsizing left him out in the cold. Now he's facility service manager at Village Manor, a smaller 60-bed care center that's over 100 years old and under renovation. From his perspective, it's a warmer, more personal environment where quality people come together.

"It's a great place to work," says Vaughan. "You become attached."

Nemo has come to appreciate the personal approach to doing things - both with his two children, and in business. That's what impressed him when he needed to hire staff. The WorkSource Oregon Employment Department in Gresham actually reached out to him to assist with his recruiting efforts. First they recommended some adjustments to a job listing created in iMatchSkills, the department's online skill-based recruiting Web site.

"After the third re-write, applications just came pouring in," Vaughan explains. "They've sent me some very good people."

Next, Nemo got an invitation to attend an open house at the Gresham office, a chance to match names with faces.

"Wow, these people are calling me -that's great," Nemo says. "Follow-up - that shows a lot of character. And that's important for the economy. They're working their hardest to get people employed."

Would Vaughan use the Gresham WorkSource Oregon Employment Department again?

"Absolutely! I recommend them to our other facilities. Great people - Great leadership," says Vaughan.
